This website, Friends of the Arlington Library, collects two kinds of user information: Anonymous Information and Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
Anonymous Information does not identify specific individuals and is automatically transmitted by your browser. None of this information can be linked to an individual. We use this information to improve our website.
Examples of Anonymous Information we may collect include:
- Your Internet Protocol (IP) address
- Your location
- The browser version you are using to access our site
- The date and time of your visit
- Pages you visited on our website
- The website you visited immediately prior to visiting our website
Certain interactions with this website (for example, purchasing a membership, donating to the Friends of the Arlington Library, volunteering at an event, or buying tickets to an event) require that we collect Personally Identifiable Information that may include:
- Email address
- Telephone number
- Credit/debit card information
- Library card number
We make every reasonable effort to protect your privacy. We restrict access to your information to the Friends of the Arlington Library Board Members, employees, or contractors as needed to fulfill your requested transaction. We do not intentionally disclose any personal information about our users to any third parties except as required by law.
We never rent or sell your information, and collect information only as required to provide requested transactions.
Restrictions for those under age 13
The Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act regulates online collection of information from children under the age of 13. If you are under the age of 13, you may not be allowed to use our online services without permission of your parent or guardian. In addition, we do not accept volunteers who are under the age of 13 at our events.
Third Party Tools - Advertising
We use Facebook and Google ads to help promote some of our events – such as the Lit up Ball and biannual book sales.
We use click-tracking to improve the performance of ads that our customers click on. We receive data about ad performance including the total number of views and clicks that an ad received.
We use conversion tracking. When an ad is viewed on a third-party site (such as Facebook), a cookie is placed in the browser of the device the ad was viewed on. If this device later visits our website the visit is linked to the ad viewed on the same device.
Users who have set their browser to “Do Not Track” are automatically opted out of ad tracking. Users can click on the “Adchoices” icon in the corner of ads to opt –out of tracking. Most mobile devices have privacy settings that allow users to “Limit Ad Tracking”.
Third Party Tools – Donating and Volunteering
We use services from third party vendors such as PayPal, and SignUpGenius to enable us to accept payments and sign up volunteers online. We never rent or sell lists of our volunteers or supporters.
The application on our website that accepts payments encrypts all ordering information, such as your name and credit card information, in order to protect confidentiality.
