Benefitting the Friends of the Arlington Public Library and the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Initiative

September 28 – 8pm to 11pm @ The Artisphere – 1101 Wilson Blvd, Arlington VA

Enjoy a night out to celebrate literature and support literacy in our community.  The Eight-Thirteen Ball is a literary-themed fancy dress social event created to raise money for the Friends of the Arlington Public Library program called “1,000 Books Before Kindergarten”, which was launched in April 1, 2013.

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is a new early literacy initiative to encourage families, teachers, childcare providers and librarians to read with children from birth and beyond.

The Eight-Thirteen Ball was named for the Dewey Decimal Classification for American Fiction.  This year, the theme is based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby and 1920’s attire is being encouraged.

Highlights of the evening will include: Jazz orchestra performing 1920’s music, Dance instructors teaching era-appropriate dances, and Canapés reminiscent of the time.
